1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The title of the magazine:When Creating my master head for my magazine i looked at hundreds of different fonts and font styles on a website called 'Dafont.' Dafont allows you to browse hundreds of different fonts and styles with great ease by just scanning through the different sub sections. However there were none i really like so i decided to use the text button on Photoshop, where i could change the colour and style also. I called my magazine "Essential" as i believe this relates well to my targeted audience. Essential is describes later in my evaluation. When creating my magazine i decided to stick to the colours pink, black and white. This allowed my magazine to stand out and be noticed as well as relating well for a pop based magazine, especially the pink. When creating the heading for my magazine i followed some conventions from previous magazine like 'top of the pops', making it stand out on a white background with a vibrant colour. In my case, this colour was the pink.
Mis-en-scene of images:I believe my images follow codes and conventions of other magazine and how the images are placed on there. For example a model in front on a plain background can be found in most magazines, especially those in the pop genre. 'Top of the Pops' would also be a great magazine to relate back to.My models follow that of different magazines also. For example, the majority of them are not looking directly at the camera but are giving that cheeky smile look. I believe this gives it the pop, cheeky look, exactly what this magazine should be like (Cheesy.) Exactly what attracts my target audience.
Costumes and Props: The costumes in "Essential" are also conventional. I believe this as POP based magazines like 'pop' or 'Top of the Pops' have models of the same similarity to me. By this i mean the majority of my models are against a plain background where only they can be noticed. This brings all the attention to just the model. For this reason, and this reason only this would be the reason why i did not use any props in my photos. I believe that if i used any props in my magazine it would have brought all the attention away from the model being pictured.
People: The people that are concluded in my magazine are that of what i would say is conventional as well as unconventional. This would be to the reason being that yes, my models are young and this relates well to the magazine. However, you get pop bands and they are also advertised in magazines, and in magazines like mine (a POP talent contest, as well as a pop magazine) they would portray this, and all of my models are solo artists. If i could make this magazine again i would make sure that i have "bands" in it, and not just the solo career artists. On the plus side i have been conventional in one manor. By this i mean i have used a mix of Gender, as my magazine offers female as well as male interests.
Title Font and Style: When i was choosing the font and style for my title i ranged through many styles. As shown on my Blog under Planning for the main task you can see the different type of styles i experiments and considered using.
Written Content: The written content of my magazine again I believe follows the conventions and codes of a real magazine as I’ve covered similar topics in the questions. For example i have included an editor’s blog as well as interviews, puzzles and posters. This has great similarity to that of pop based magazines like mine, "Top of the POPS for example." This has a great impact on the target audience as it allows them to follow the magazine with ease.
Music Genre And How Your Magazine Suggest It: The genre for my magazine would be that of POP influences. I believe this is shown throughout my magazine as the colour scheme of the magazine is that of a pop magazine and the photographs that are being shown portray a POP look. For example the colours that i used i believe shows the reader that it is a POP based magazine (Pink and white is a classic POP/party colour.) Also, the pictures are set off to look like a pop artist being photographed. Another way in which i believe it comes across is that of the stories included in the magazine. POP artists are used and this also helps with the genre to come across to its audience.
Layout: The lay out of my magazine is mainly that of conventional. By this i mean it has a similar layout to that of other magazines. It has a main picture and text. The image and text can be laid out in many different ways, but i chose what i believed looks the best and most professional. The Picture is very striking and a lot of the reader’s attention goes to this. This would be the first thing that the reader would look at. Another way in what i made it conventional was by looking at other magazines and putting in a second story on the double page spread which would continue over the page. This gives of a professional look as a lot of magazines do this.
Contents Page: My content page also contains and follows the codes and conventions of existing music magazines. For instance it features an editorial which has there input on what they do for the magazine. It also had a similar lay-out to some magazines already being published and i think this is appealing to my audience that i am aiming it at. Another way that i believe it follows the conventions of other magazine as it is very sharp. Everything is sectioned into its own little thing, exactly how it would be on a magazine also viewable today.
Top of the Pops magazine came of a great help when i was creating the magazine.
